In Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil heeft het politiedepartement van Raccoon City geen idee wat er precies is gebeurd met het Special Tactics And Rescue Service (STARS) team dat het Arkley gebergte is gaan onderzoeken. In het gebergte is recentelijk een aantal mensen verdwenen, en nu is er ook geen contact meer met het STARS team. Er wordt een tweede team op poten gezet, maar er is iets heel erg mis gegaan.

Je krijgt in de survival-horror game Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil controle over twee leden van het tweede STARS team. Chris Redfield en Jill Valentine moeten een grote villa onderzoeken na een vreselijke ramp. Zij ontdekken een lab waar genetische manipulaties plaatsvinden. Onbeschrijfelijke horror ligt continu op de loer, en de ultieme test is niet om je onderzoek af te ronden, maar om levend de villa te verlaten!
